Eliquid Flavors and Your Taste Buds: What to Expect
When you switch to electronic cigarettes, you expect some changes. You know that your house, car, hair and clothes won’t smell so unpleasant anymore. And that you won’t have to deal with ashes and tar dirtying and staining your things. What a lot of new vapers don’t realize, though, is that your sense of taste will go through some changes, as well.
Anecdotally, most smokers will tell you that they feel like their senses of taste and smell are affected by smoking. If you are one of these smokers, then you may well notice those thoughts becoming stronger when you switch to e-cigarettes. That’s not exactly the whole story, though. In fact, your taste buds may go through a cycle of change as your body gets used to vapor instead of smoke.
An Explanation of Taste
Salty, Sour, Sweet, Bitter, Umami – Nature’s Appetite Explained
We eat the foods we like and avoid the ones we don’t. But why? And why do some people love foods that others despise? Our preferences stem from physiological traits that have evolved with our species. It started as a means for survival. Taste drives our appetite. We crave certain foods because our body needs them. Sweets are rich in energy-giving carbohydrates. Salt balances our body fluids and carries nutrition throughout the body. Bitterness and acidity are warnings of toxins and spoiled foods.
Nature is Amazing
Of course, our cave-dwelling ancestors didn’t crave a Milky Way bar like, and most would have quickly spat out that cup of coffee. Taste has evolved in humans over time as a result of technological and cultural events. For instance, the ability to preserve foods through curing (salt) and bringing (acid) changed our reluctance to ingest these basic tastes. We taught ourselves to like alcohol and coffee (fermented, bitter, and astringent beverages) because we found their effects pleasurable. People brought up on a diet of highly spiced foods have a much higher tolerance for it.
Vaping and taste bud changes
You may have noticed that while some people who use electronic cigarettes like to stick with one “all day vape,.” And also most tend to switch many flavors.
While in part this is a matter of preference and of enjoying variety, it also serves a practical purpose. Without swapping flavors, some vapers report that their taste buds seem to become immune to certain e-juices. While not a major issue, it can be disconcerting the first time it occurs. Luckily, the vaping community has developed a couple of methods for dealing with this.
Nicotine liquid flavors or…!
Some vapers have found success with changing flavors on a regular basis to keep their taste buds fresh. For some, the method involves choosing specific flavors for specific times of the day.
For example, an e-cig user may have a favorite “morning vape” flavor that goes especially well with coffee or tea, an afternoon flavor that has a more basic, goes-with-everything appeal, and an “evening vape” that gives a milder, more relaxing experience later in the day.
You don’t have to limit yourself to three, of course. Other vapers keep many batteries stocked with different flavors on-hand at all times. There isn’t a rule on how many flavors or how often to switch them, so it’s a matter of personal preference.
WHEN EVERYTHING OF YOUR VAPING GONE WRONG!
Many people who try electronic cigarettes do so because they’re looking for an alternative to regular smokes. Perhaps you’ve been a smoker for many years and wanted to quit but feel like you’re unable.
Nicotine is a very powerful drug that’s highly addictive. For instance, it’s commonly believed that quitting cigarettes (…or nicotine more specifically) can be as difficult as quitting heroin. It’s hard to believe that something so common could be so addictive but it is.
For those unable to kick the habit, electronic cigarettes offer an alternative that’s not quite so damaging. E-cigs do not contain many of the harmful chemicals and components found in traditional cigarettes they only contain nicotine, which is ultimately the substance we crave.
When a smoker makes the switch to vaping and electronic cigarettes, many are unsure of whether the digital devices will work in helping them kick their former smoking habits.
While results are mixed, many vapers do officially become former smokers.
One of the main reasons why is the fact that many vapers claim regular cigarettes have a foul taste once they’re used e-cigs for a while the effects are also more pronounced with one vaper arguing that smoking a cigarette made him feel light headed and dizzy.
Another thing too is the smell – after quitting, many ex-smokers say cigarettes feel awful to them. Electronic cigarettes do not produce this putrid odor so once you use them for a while instead of traditional smokes, it’s easy to detect the smell of a regular cigarette.
It’s well known that quitting smoking helps you dramatically improve your sense of smell and taste buds. So when you puff on a cigarette after not doing so for a while, it’s easy to see how a regular cigarette will taste and smell pretty bad.
Many vapers are writing on electronic cigarette forums back up this claim. Unsure of how electronic cigarettes will work, many keep a pack of their favorite smokes around just in case. But once they’ve used in vaping for a while, their sense of smell and taste return. When trying to puff on a regular cigarette, they begin to realize how distasteful they are.
All Taste Awful After Vaping? It’s always temporary
It’s certainly unclear why the use of electronic cigarettes makes traditional smokes taste awful. Have you had this experience? Tell us about it by leaving us a comment.
When e-cigarette users talk about the phenomenon of taste bud burnout, they all agree that it’s a temporary issue. One can remedy by switching up e-juice flavors and drinking water. For most, the problem lasts no longer than a day.
Plus, it’s an excuse to expand your e-juice flavor selection. If these problems are a reflection of taste bud boredom, then a new flavor of nicotine liquid could be what’s needed to wake those taste buds up.
